Holiday cards for a cause

Make the holidays special this year with The Ovarian Cancer Research Fund (OCRF), whose mission is to fund research to find a method of early detection and ultimately a cure for ovarian cancer, the deadliest of all gynecologic cancers. OCRF has created a beautifully designed set of four holiday cards (Joy, Happy Holidays, Peace, Seasons Greetings) that will be available this year for purchase at www.ocrf.org/shop. 100% of the proceeds will benefit OCRF.

This year, designer Marian Williams created a set of four holiday cards especially for OCRF. Printed by our friends at Graphic Suisse, 100% of proceeds will benefit OCRF.

About Ovarian Cancer
Ovarian cancer is the fifth leading cause of cancer death among women in the United States. The American Cancer Society estimates that over 22,000 women will be diagnosed with ovarian cancer in the U.S. in 2008 and about 15,520 women will die from it. If ovarian cancer is detected in early stages (before it has spread outside the ovary), treatment is often very successful, with five-year survival rates of about 92 percent. However, less than 20 percent of the cancers are detected in early stages. Thus, the average five-year survival rate is just 45 percent. The deaths compared to those who are diagnosed are staggering but we can do something to change this.

About the Cards
Cards measure 5"x7". Inside inscriptions (left to right):
"Happy holiday kissses", "Enjoy the wonder and cheer of the season.", "Warm wishes for the New Year.", "Wishing you peace, joy and warm fuzzies this holiday season."

Embrace solutions for your unmentionables

Do you have a favorite bra that you just can't wear with certain clothing because your straps would show? Embrace has the solution with their Bra Strap Solution. It's a tiny, clear plastic circle with cut outs in the shape of hearts. Use the cut outs to pull your straps close and adjust until your straps are hidden. Voila...your favorite bra is now converted into a racerback that you can wear with confidence and comfort. No more buying specialty bras in multiple colors to wear with specific revealing tops or dresses!

Embrace offers several other unique solutions, including In Place and A Fresh Pair. In Place double-stick strips hold EVERYTHING in place - skin to fabric and fabric to fabric. Smartly designed to let you alter the width of tape for all your fashion fixes. I used these for a low-cut dress I wore to my brother's wedding and felt confident that I wouldn't "fall out" during the night. A Fresh Pair is a gentle soap leaf infused with fresh pear undertones created for hand washing your delicate undergarments. It comes in a convenient and discreet pouch that makes it easy to travel with.

Solve your sleep problems with pzizz

I have insomnia. Not the kind that keeps me up night after night. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to why I fall asleep easy some nights and toss and turn others. The problem must relate to not being able to turn off my mind when my head hits the pillow. When I heard about pzizz (pzizz.com/, $29.95 and up) I was skeptical but decided to give it a try. I saved a 60 minute segment to my ipod and settled down. By the time the soothing voice told me to get comfortable I felt almost as if I was floating. I have been addicted ever since. I find myself repeatedly using pzizz. I haven't felt the floating sensation again, but it helps my mind stop racing so I can fall asleep easily. I'm telling everyone I know to check it out! Pzizz--funny name with serious results!

Limited snack portions gets fun

Every time I pick up a magazine I read about the obesity epidemic in the U.S. and how big our portions have gotten. The 100 calorie snack paks that have become so popular are even missing the mark. Sure, they help you control your portion, but they don't teach you how to eat right.

Enter the The Yum Yum Dish (www.yumyumdish.com, $22), a 4 oz. dish that's fun and easy to understand. Place your snack in the bowl, and as long as you don't re-fill the bowl there is no danger of over-snacking. So go ahead, enjoy that ice cream and those Oreo cookies. Yum yum!

Get perky without surgery

Bring new life to an old bra, wear your favorite tops with confidence, and get an instant lift without surgery with The Bra Clip (www.bralief.com, $9.95). The clip wraps around the straps of a bra in the back pulling the straps together.

The bra clip comes in several colors, including their “cotton candy” for which 20% of proceeds are donated to breast cancer awareness.

Organize your schedule with style

Remember the carefree days of yore when your days were easily planned or you had room for spontaneity? Once you had kids, all of that went out the window, right? Between doctor appointments, sports or music lessons and playdates, you might find it hard to keep tabs on where you should be each day. Keep it all together with momAgenda, created by a mom (www.momagenda.com, $42.00). The stylish
organizer gives busy moms a place to manage their schedules and
those of the rest of the family.

Or, try the Kitchen Folio ($32.95) with interchangeable tabs and plastic page protectors to organize school papers, sports and activity schedules and other countertop stacks.

Other fun products include a babysitter pad, chore list, shopping list and much more. Each product in the momAgenda line features fun colorful designs and helpful features to assist you in staying organized and on time. Download free planner pages to accompany the innovative organizers from the momagenda Web site.

Express your love

Do you loathe standing in the card aisle every special holiday looking for the perfect card to express your love to your significant other? Say goodbye to those days and pick up a journal to express your feelings in your own words. Beloved Journals (www.belovedjournals.com, $14.95) come in three different themes: For My Beloved Husband, For My Beloved Wife and For My Beloved. Each journal is meant to help you share your feelings through all special stages of love. The For My Beloved journal can be shared back and forth. Each journal is beautifully designed and features a ribbon bookmark from which a cute charm dangles.

Baby bling

One of baby's favorite past times is to tug on a woman's jewelry or long hair. That's why the innovative women behind Smart Mom, LLC, developed Teething Bling™ pendants (www.smartmomjewelry.com, $19.10). The lead-free, non-toxic safe material satisfies baby's urge to tug and explore with her mouth. Other products available include bangles and keychains in a variety of colors and designs.

Designer doggie doorbell for potty breaks

When my five year old dog was a puppy, I took her to obedience school. We were taught to hang a bell from a piece of floss or string from the doorknob at our dog's snout level. We were instructed to place peanut butter on the bell and let the dog lick it each time we let it out to potty. Let me tell you--this trick definitely taught my baby to ring a bell when she has to go out.

Poochie Bells (http://www.poochie-pets.net, $16.50) to the rescue! Now when Skyy has to go outside, she doesn't stand by the door and wait for me to notice her. She simply nudges the Poochie Bell with her nose or paw and I come running. I think I'm actually the one who is trained--not the dog!

Express yourself with a beverage coat

Next time you stop for coffee, tea or even a cold one, take along a Cup Coat (www.cupcoat.com), reusable cup fashion. Most cup jackets are made out of recycled paper or paper products and are thrown away daily. Fits most 12oz, 16oz and 20oz beverage cups and are insulated with Thinsulate.

Eat this, not that

Every night Americans across the country ask the same question: "What's for dinner?" Whether you're eating in or out, the book Eat This, Not That, and its optional accompanying weekly e-newsletters offer tips comparing your favorite foods to better choices. You'll find thousands of simple food swaps that can help you in your quest for a thin middle. Each two-page spread focuses on one food category or restaurant. Bright, colorful photographs of the food being debated is accompanied by calorie content and other quick nutrition facts. Find out what options are less than 400 calories and 15 grams of fat at your favorite restaurant. Or which frozen latte is the worst selection at Starbucks. This book will open your eyes to what you have been eating and help you learn to make better choices.

It's time to shape up!

Being married to a personal trainer I have to admit I was skeptical of the fit shoe craze. From Victoria's Secret to Bath and Body Works, stores everywhere are clamoring to bring this product to market.

But I decided to give Shape Up Shoes (www.shapeupshoes.com, $39.99) a try. I wouldn't recommend wearing them out, but for working around the house I could definitely feel them working my legs.

Watch those portion sizes

Have you ever heard that you need to eat a portion that is the size of the palm of your hand or a deck of cards? But do you have a hard time figuring out those measurements when it comes time to cook? portionpal® (www.portionpal.com, $17.99) comes in 5 translucent discs to help you control your food intake. The fun, silicone cutting boards help measure the proper size portions of Meat, Chicken, Fish, Sides, and Dessert. And let me tell you. The portion on the Dessert disc is TINY so it really hits home how overboard I was going on my favorite dessert, cookies.

Help save the planet with style

I was so intrigued when I heard about the iTySE bag (www.ityse.com, $40-$80). Their slogan, "Saving the planet with STYLE" couldn't be more appropo. The stylish and fun system makes ridding your life of plastic grocery bags simple.

The iTySE system goes everywhere with you. No longer do you have to keep up with the reusable shopping bags for each store you visit. Just drop your wallet and your cell phone into the iTySE bag and you're ready to go. At the check out line, pull out the mesh bags to package your purchase.

It only takes a drop

Last Christmas a unique product was tucked in each member of my family's stocking. After investigating, I realized the small blue bottle labeled Just a Drop www.justadrop.net, $14.99) is meant to hide embarrassing bathroom odors. With one drop in the toilet BEFORE you go, the highly concentrated and biodegradable Just a Drop effectively traps and eliminates 98% of odors before they escape into the air.

Don't be moody!

Ever open your handbag during that time of the month only to find that your tampon has opened and can no longer be used? Or do you have to pull everything out of your bag to find it?

Moodeez bags (www.moodeez.com, $14.99) stylishly protect and organize your your tampons, pads, and panty liners.

I love having this discreet way to carry my personals, and know I'll never have to worry about opened tampons again.

Kick off your heels

I have a confession. I have bunions. Big, ugly, painful bunions. So when I want to wear a cute pair of shoes on a big night out, or even around the office, my feet hate me.

Then Spare Soles walked into my life. Spare Soles (www.sparesoles.com, $21.95). They are a compact ballerina flat with a matching wristlet purse. They can fit in the smallest purse or pocket. Spare Soles have a flexible fashionable upper and a skid resistant water-proof sole. They are available in three sizes and assorted colors, including black and silver. So kick off those heels when your feet have had enough, but you are still ready to roll.

Hang em high

My favorite new fun little gadget or toy is the purse hanger. Every time I use it I get compliments and questions. Most often I use the purse hanger when dining at a restaurant where there is nowhere to place my purse. I don't want to hang my purse on the back of my chair or sit it in my lap or the floor (not very convenient or sanitary).

Purse Hanger (www.pursejewelry.com, $8.95) to the rescue! Simply carry the portable hanger in your purse and pull it out whenever and wherever you need it. There are a variety of styles from which to choose.

Cool candy bars for cool cats

When I heard about Crispy Cat organic candy bars I was skeptical. A candy bar that is healthy and yet tastes good? It hits is mark on both counts. Crispy Cat bars are 70% organic with no preservatives, dairy, gluten or GMO.

When I took my first bite I was afraid it would taste like a protein bar but I was pleasantly surprised that it did not. The dark chocolate coating satisfied my sweet tooth, and the roasted peanut and rice inside didn't taste chalky. With 220 calories, Crispy Cat candy bars are sure to become the favorite of health conscious eaters everywhere.

Check out their web site to purchase them, or use the store locator to find out where they are available in your area.

Stay organized. Period.

Every time I go to my annual physical I scratch my head when I get to the section of the form that asks when was the first and last day of my last menstrual cycle. I have never kept up with that information as I know that I should. Until now.

The bluehealer health diary for women ($12.95, www.bluehealerdiary.com) is a day planner and menstrual calendar together in one convenient book. Not only can you track your own daily activities, but you can also track those of your kids or family, along with your monthly cycle or menopause symptoms. What's more, they also have other versions including a personal health journal and a journal to track feeding times for baby. The health day planner enables users to track a hectic work day along with chronic illness symptoms, thereby making correlations between stress and illness.

Massage doesn't have to be a workout

No longer do I have to wear out my arms, fingers and wrists rubbing my hubby's back. He is 36 and plays "Over 28 Men's League Baseball" but all of his teammates are younger than him -- they are between 28 and 30 so they give him a run for his money. With the Tiger Tail Rolling Muscle Massager ($24.99, polarfusion.com) I simply roll the massager across his back, calves and arms when he comes home sore from a double header. He is fighting his age - trying to hang with the younger dudes...its laughable when he comes home limping and popping Advil like its going out of style!! He didn't have that problem after day-long softball tournaments during his early twenties. But I digress....

Hubby returns the favor, of course, and gives me a much needed rub-down when my shoulders are tense from sitting at the computer all day, or when I'm sore from my Biggest Loser Workout DVDs.
